Beta-thalassemia in Mureş County

Abstract:

The incidence of beta thalassemia is on first position among the hemoglobinophaties. Although it is a rare disease in Romania, it represents a problem of differential diagnosis with microcytic hypocromic anemia. The aim of this work is to report the new cases of beta thalassemia minor and major beetwen 2002-2005. 44 cases were included (18 males and 26 females). The inclusion criteria has been the value of Hb A2>3 % or Hb F>2 % (after one year old). We followed Hb A2, Hb F, Hb A values; gender and age distributions; incidece rate of beta thalassemia in Mureş county.
