How to annotate article proofs

The purpose of the proof is to check for typesetting or conversion errors and the completeness and accuracy of the text, tables and figures. Substantial changes in content are not allowed without the approval of the Editor. After online publication, further changes can only be made in the form of an Erratum, which will be hyperlinked to the article.

All the comments have to be annotated directly on the PDF file that the corresponding author has received from the Editors. The free PDF viewers (Adobe Acrobat reader or Foxit reader) possess tools that allow annotations directly on text.

The tools are marked with suggestive icons, as follows:

Insert additional text tool. Select this tool and place the cursor where you would like your text to appear, and then type the additional text.
Replace text tool. Select this tool, and then highlight the text you wish to be deleted and type the replacement text.
Delete text tool. Select this tool, and then highlight text to be deleted with the cursor.
Highlight text tool. Select this tool, and then highlight text to appear highlighted. If you wish to add comments to the highlighted text, double click on the highlighting
Add note to text tool. Select this tool, and then highlight text you wish to comment on, then type your comments

All the comments will be visible on one side of the PDF viewer. Exemples are presented in the following pictures.
