Abstract: The aim of this work is to establish the role of age of diabetes, glycemic control and dyslipidemia in diabetic neuropathy development, in diabetes mellitus patients from diabetic regional center Mures. Sample size was calculated as 340 patients with diabetes mellitus. We have considered this size as statistically significant for the study population. This study design allows calculating the relative risk (RR). Statistic calculation was performed using EpiInfo and data collection was made with Microsoft Excel. Potential risk factors analysis (glycated hemoglobin, serum total cholesterol, triglycerides) showed that glycated hemoglobin is confirmed as risk factor, and hypertriglyceridemia and hypercholesterolemia were statistically significant as predictors for peripheral neuropathy in diabetic patients. Ineffective glycemic control and age of diabetes are confirmed as essential risk factor for peripheral neuropathy, hypercholesterolemia and hypertriglyceridemia are not associated with it, but they associate in the same patient.
